When the Water Came Up to Montgomery Street: San Francisco During the Gold Rush, the latest book by SFMHS Founder and President Emeritus Charles A. Fracchia, is available exclusively through the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society.

The People of San Francisco
The San Francisco Museum and Historical Society has two collections of portraits of famous and not-so-famous San Franciscans by Elaine Badgley Arnoux.

The first collection features seventy-eight portraits, including San Francisco Chronicle columnists Herb Caen and Charles McCabe; entertainer Val Diamond; philanthropists Louise M. Davies, James Hormel, and Cyril Magnin; baseball great Willie McCovey; politicians Willie Brown, Dianne Feinstein, and Nancy Pelosi; civic leaders Phyllis Lyon, Del Martin, and the Reverend Cecil Williams; and many more.

The second collection includes eighty-four portraits, including former mayors George Christopher, Art Agnos, Frank Jordan, and Gavin Newsom; Senator Barbara Boxer, Mayor Ed Lee, philanthropists Dede Wilsey and Chuck Williams; basketball great Nate Thurmond; journalists Belva Davis, Don Sanchez, and Carl Nolte; and many more
