Old Mint Tours
Get a look inside the Old Mint! SFMHS guides will discuss the history of the building, the plans for the facility, and show you the progress we have made so far.
Note: Production of coins ceased at The Old Mint in 1937, and there are no coins or coin-making equipment on display.
Sundays At The Mint
Tours of the Old Mint are offered as a part of Sundays At The Mint, usually at 1:30 and 3:00 pm. They last approximately 45 minutes. These tours do not require reservations, and are offered on a first-come-first-served basis. If necessary, there will be a sign-up list at the entry table. Tour admission is included in admission to Sundays At The Mint.
Dedicated tours are offered once or twice a month (see the schedule below). These tours are generally more comprehensive than those offered on Sundays, and last approximately 60 to 75 minutes. Tours will begin on the northeast side of the Mint Building at Mint Plaza (closer to Market Street).
To ensure the best possible experience for tour participants, tour size for is limited based on the availability of docents, and advance reservations are required. An individual can bring a group of no more than six people. If you have a larger group, we encourage you to schedule a private tour (see below).
