City on the Edge
Exhibit Coming July, 2025

San Francisco has always been a city on the edge—the edge of the continent the edge of technology, of art, of politics and activism, of social boundaries. We even sit on top of an edge—the volatile fault lines where Earth’s tectonic plated collide. An international community since its early days, San Francisco has always drawn explorers, dreamers, builders, inventors, outlaws, artists, and champions of social change—looking for a better life, for freedom, or for a chance to re-invent themselves.
The Museum of San Francisco celebrates our place on the edge. Our permanent exhibit will explore this theme to build visitors’ understanding of the key people, events, and natural forces that shaped the city’s growth.
San Francisco: City on the Edge is made possible by the support of our funders and community partners.
